3857470 & 3857471 - Volvo Penta SX-M fore connection trim cylinders
The trim system with fore connections is the second generation, replacing the older OMC - SX Cobra trim cylinders. The trim cylinder 3857470 is used with transom shields SX-M, SX-MDA, SX-MDB, SX-MHP, SX-MDC, SX-MBAC, while 3857471 is limited to the following transom models: SX-MLT, SX-MACLT. Their internal components and service parts are technically the same. Both of the cylinder models are offered at Poseidon Marine (#7 on the drawing):

The trim hoses are different on the port and starboard side, thus we advise to be careful when ordering. The port side requires two hoses, with the following references:

Hydraulic hose for SX-M w/Fore connections port down replaces 3857523 (#1 on the drawing)

For the starboard side, the following hoses are needed:

When replacing the trim hoses, don’t forget to place new sealing O-rings “Recmar® o-ring for trim hose to cylinder Volvo Penta SX 3852165 18-7141”, which are depicted on the scheme under reference number #3. The same reference is used on the other side of the trim hose, which is connected on the oil splitter “Poseidon Marine® Hydraulic Manifold Block for Volvo Penta SX replaces 3852559”.
The trim cylinders are held in place with two pivot pins “Volvo Penta® pivot pin 3857431 for trimming cylinder 3857470 3857471”. One is attached on the transom plate, while the other on the aft side of the outdrive. These pins are depicted under reference number #10. It is advised to renew from times to times the following fasteners and hardware:
